Our next KenTen Writer’s meeting is Saturday, July 20, 2019. We will meet at 2 p.m. at Graves County Library in Mayfield, KY. Kathy Cretsinger will bring a presentation on “50 Shades of Marketing.” She does not claim that it will be the best you’ve ever heard on marketing, but it should be interesting.
We will meet on our usual day this month: April 20 at 2 p.m., Graves County Public Library in Mayfield. We’ll have a short lesson to help us hone our critiquing and self-editing skills, then we’ll practice those on each other. To take part in the critique portion, send your selection of up to three pages double-spaced as an attachment to this loop. Please try to send it at least a week ahead, so that we can all print it out and have time to go over it. It does NOT have to be the first three pages, and preferably it’s something you’re working on. Bring an extra copy or two to the meeting, in case someone didn’t get it printed out. We always enjoy critique sessions together, so let’s have ’em! I hope everyone can participate. But even if you can’t send us anything, come on and join the fun. It’s a time of encouraging. We’ll tell you what you’re doing right, not just what needs improvement.
Formatting your selection: it works best if you use 12-point in a plain font like Times New Roman, double space, and please, if you can, put page numbers and your name on it! No extra spaces between paragraphs, and do indent the first line of each paragraph. Thanks! We’re very forgiving if it’s not exactly this way.
See you soon!
Susan Page Davis
Due to the threat of severe weather, we will cancel tomorrow’s meeting. Join us February 16th at the Graves County Library at 2 pm for our next meeting.

Yesterday was a wonderful day! We had a full day of fellowship and learning to better our craft of writing.
Alma Jones kicked off the morning with our daily devotional. She encouraged us to do all we can in every situation because we don’t know when we are part of God’s plan.
Our morning session was led by Sandra Robbins. She gave us all the tools to write a great novel. Starting with a good catchy first sentence and developing a great scene were some of the tips we touched on.
Our afternoon session was led by Susan Page Davis. Susan shared with us about writing a series. She also shared her techniques for creating a series guide where information about each character and location can be kept and referred back to as needed.
In between our learning sessions, we shared in critique sessions, brainstorming sessions and above all else, friendship building. Laughter would ring out from the huddled groups as they shared upcoming story ideas.
We ended our evening with a presentation of “All The World’s A Stagecoach”. This was a murder mystery game written by Susan Page Davis and acted out by members of the KenTen Writers group. Sheriff Roy Sanka told us over and over there would be “no shenanigans in Mulch Gulch” but still, Walter Doo had lost his life and someone among us was a murderer. After three rounds of questioning and accusing, we learned the murderer’s identity…but that identity will have to stay in Mulch Gulch.
KenTen Writers Retreat kicked off last night with a BBQ picnic at Paris Landing State Park. Participants enjoyed food and fellowship in the warm June air.
Sessions by Sandra Robbins and Susan Page Davis start today.
Paris Landing State Park
For the past four years, we at KenTen Writers Group have scheduled a writers retreat for our group. Last year, we included several authors who were outside our group and enjoyed what we learned from them. In planning the next retreat, we decided to open it even more authors to include thirty (30) people.
Our retreat will be at beautiful Paris Landing State Park in Buchanan, TN. We have rooms blocked off to accommodate each of you. The plans are coming together for a great learning experience to fill your cup with knowledge and fellowship with other authors.
Monday evening will be the first scheduled meeting with a get-together at a pavilion on the park grounds. Wonderful West Tennessee barbeque will be served and authors will be able to meet and greet others.
Tuesday and Wednesday will begin with a Continental breakfast in our meeting room. We will have a box lunch served for lunch each day. Tuesday night you may eat at the resort or explore the area on your own. Wednesday night, we plan to all go to a restaurant close to the resort and come back for an evening of “who-done-it.” Thursday morning, we will say our good-byes.
Our sessions include sessions on marketing, cover design, punctuation, writing a series and writing a short story. The presenters will be:
Susan Page Davis – Keeping a Series on the Mark
Sandra Robbins – How to Combine Riveting Suspense with Heartwarming Romance
Pam Harris – Punctuation
Diane Turpin – Cover Design
Kathy Cretsinger – Marketing
Susan and Sandra are both multi published authors. Pam is an English teacher and editor for Mantle Rock Publishing. Diane is a graphic artist and cover designer. Kathy is owner of Mantle Rock Publishing. We feel all of these ladies are qualified in their subject.
Time has been set aside for mentoring, brain storming, and critiquing. If you prefer, you may use the free time for writing or exploring Paris Landing. Mentoring and Brainstorming sessions by Sandra Robbins have been filled.
Early Bird Registration fee is $60.00. After April 1, the registration fee will be $70. We are limited to thirty participants.

Book signing held at Crittenden County Library was a success.
The book signing held at Crittenden County Public Library last Saturday was a huge success. Our writers group was well represented and the library patrons were excited to meet our authors and discuss their books. A big thank you to Regina Merrick for arranging the book signing and providing snacks and door prizes!
